Deir al-Balah is in central Gaza. It has been the site of repeated Israeli strikes throughout the conflict. Schools in Gaza have continued operating in severely constrained conditions. Children moving between home and school remain at risk from aerial strikes.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has documented repeated strikes on or near schools and displacement sites across Gaza since October 2023. As of 2026, the Gaza Ministry of Health has recorded over 44,000 documented deaths. The actual number is assessed by public health researchers to be higher due to incomplete recording under active conflict conditions.
This account is based solely on footage and photography filmed on the ground in Gaza by Ground Partner Salah Ostaz in October 2026, and on verified institutional data from OCHA and the Gaza Ministry of Health. UNSILENCED publishes Salah's work without editorial modification to the testimony.
