A death zone. Scorpions. Snakes. Stray bullets. Torn tents. Winter days away. Dozens of families. A graveyard.
Dozens of displaced Palestinian families are living inside a cemetery in Khan Younis. An unnamed displaced woman interviewed by Abdallah Alattar on September 27 2026 described the location as a death zone, saying the families are living between the danger of poisonous scorpions, the danger of snakes, and the danger of stray bullets.
The families held a public protest demanding food and humanitarian support. Abdallah reported in Arabic that the families are forgotten among the graves, gathering to demand food and humanitarian aid. The woman he interviewed speaks on their behalf amid growing fears about the coming winter.
Winter is approaching in days. The tents the families are sheltering in are torn and dilapidated. The woman told Abdallah: the tents will not be suitable because we are expecting the coming winter and they cannot withstand cold and rain.
In addition to scorpions, snakes and deteriorating shelter, the woman documented that stray bullets are reaching the displacement sites, making daily life threatened around the clock. She said: there is no place in the Gaza Strip other than this place where half a percent is safe for our children. But no, it is not safe.

"This place, folks, is a death zone. We are living between the danger of poisonous scorpions, the danger of snakes, and the danger of stray bullets. We have no place. And besides the bombing and the constant airstrikes over our heads, so where do we go? Winter is just around the corner. We are only a few days away from winter, and we are living in torn and dilapidated tents."
